Exam Info

  • Date of 2006-2007 exams
    • Paper 1 and 2: Afternoon, Thursday, May 10;
    • Paper 3: Morning, Friday, May 11
  • Standard Level Exam Info
    • IB Exam consists of three parts
      • Paper 1: 30 multiple choice questions (no calculator, should have periodic table available), 45 minutes
        • Questions follow curriculum very closely (in order from topic 1 to topic 11).
        • Questions: (4-5, stoichiometry)(3-4 atomic structure)(2-3 periodic trends)(3-4 bonding)(1 gas laws)(3-5 thermo)(1-2 kinetics)(1-2 equilibrium)(2-3 acid/base)(2-3 redox)(3-6 organic)
      • Paper 2: Short answer/multi-part essay questions involving mostly calculations covering the core and higher level material. (Calculator required, will be able to use data booklet), 1 hour 15 minutes
        • Paper 2 has two parts
          • Part A: Answer all questions
          • Part B: You choose 1 of 3 questions to answer
        • My predictions: one question each for equilibrium, bonding, and organic
        • Other likely possibilities: thermodynamics, atomic structure
      • Paper 3: Short answer/multi-part essay questions covering the options, 1 hour
        • You choose 2 options to answer. There will be one from each of the options
        • The options we cover in IBS Chemistry are:
          • Option A: Higher Physical Chemistry (this option will be integrated with other topics throughout the year)
          • Option B: Human Biochemistry
  • Higher Level Exam Info
    • IB Exam consists of three parts
      • Paper 1: 40 multiple choice questions (no calculator, should have periodic table available), 1 hour
        • Questions follow curriculum very closely (in order from topic 1 to topic 20 or from topic 1 to 11 with HL topics 12-20 mixed in with core topics).
        • Questions: (1-4, stoichiometry)(2-4 atomic structure)(1-3 periodic trends)(4-8 bonding)(1-3 gas laws)(4-5 thermo)(2-3 kinetics)(2-3 equilibrium)(4-5 acid/base)(3-5 redox)(6-8 organic)
      • Paper 2: Short answer/multi-part essay questions involving mostly calculations covering the core and higher level material. (Calculator required, will be able to use data booklet), 2 hours 15 minutes
        • Paper 2 has two parts
          • Part A: Answer all questions. There is also data based question which requires you to analyze a set of data.
            • I predict at least one question on stoichiometry and one on kinetics
          • Part B: You choose 2 of four questions to answer
            • I predict the choices will cover bonding, organic, redox
            • Other possibilities: acids, periodic trends
      • Paper 3: Short answer/multi-part essay questions covering the options, 1 hour 15 minutes
        • You choose 2 options to answer. There will be one from each of the options
        • The options we cover in IBS Chemistry are:
          • Option B: Human Biochemistry
          • Class Choice
